It was all relative(s) tonight on TAYG, with the captains of each team joined by their family members. Amanda was joined by her husband Harley Oliver, Charlie by his sister Suzie Pickering, and Josh and his 83 year old grandmother Mona Hale.

First up was Franken-face, and the Bond girls got a run as one of the faces. The next game was Chicken or Egg, guessing which came first out of two similar things.

The four buttons were Love, Respect, Communication and ‘Trust Me’.

• Baby Boomers chose Love, which was ‘The Secret Life of Walter’s Ditties.” Dr Hannibal Chew from Blade Runner assisted (sort of) as Shaun read out some lyrics from the verses of songs.
• Gen X chose Respect. Shaun announced the game as ‘7 Degrees of Separation’ then took a bite of a Banana. During the game Charlie and Suzie had to request the assistance of Pamela and Ron, their parents, but still only got 2 correct!
• Then came the moment we all waited for – Gen Y choosing Trust Me. It was of course ‘Human Nacho’, and Mona volunteered herself to be the one to sit in the chair. On getting the first question right, Mona was offered a corn chip. But the second question was wrong, and Shaun started to turn the lever. It didn’t move, so Shaun suggested she would be spared – but then at the last moment it fell, and she was covered in sour cream. For the last question, Shaun let Josh ask the audience – saving Mona from any more nacho topping. She took it all very well.

The Your Gen topic was “Things”. When Amanda and Harley were asked ‘what thing will your children be eating tonight?’, footage was shown of Liam and Jack rummaging through the fridge.

For the endgame, the envelope was delivered by Shaun’s ‘son’ Rodger – ‘Which generation can fill a car with ping pong ball’, filling the sponsorship obligations. It descended into a bun fight as the teams tried to sabotage each other. With no clear winner, Shaun awarded the 1972 AMP Review Trophy donated by Deb Johnson to Mona alone, for allowing herself to be covered in sour cream.

Who knew that Australia created the splade? Us, now. Guests this week were actor Penny Cook for the Baby Boomers, model Kris Smith for Gen X and Singer/Songwriter Mike Posner for Gen Y. Stuart the Meerkat helped out with the promotion of Mike’s CD, and continued to pop up from time-to-time.

First up was Name That Tee, followed by Celebrity Handbags. The kettle was put in the back seat in As Quick As – Hello Kitty announced that it would be dynamite on a fuse which would be the timer, before arguing on the existance of a flying power turtle. Shaun

The four buttons were all cases: a case of beer, the case of missing  union leader Jimmy Hoffer, a case marked ‘7’ and Trust Me.

• Gen X chose the beer, playing ‘Draw that Movie’.
• Gen Y picked Jimmy, which was ‘Watch Your Mouth’, where Mike played the guests and Josh tried to guess. When Michael Cain came up, Shaun filled in with an implacable impression that still caused confusion.
• BB decided on Case 7 – Chronoloco! 6 items from “As Seen On TV” had to be ordered by when they first appeared. Amanda and Penny took on the personalities of the presenters.

The Your Gen topic was ‘Kids’. To get the end-game envelope, Shaun had to pick-axe through a block of ice. The challenge was to pair and ball up socks. Did you know that all computer socks crashed when the W2K bug hit? Gen Y won the 2008 Grade 2 Mixed Comp Tennis Trophy donated by Di Dennis. Shaun then clothes-lined himself.

Time for some brain torture – ASIO style!

The guests this week were actress Judith McGrath (BB), tennis player Todd Woodbridge (Gen X), and DJ Danny Clayton (Gen Y). First up was Panda-monium, where the teams had to guess which famous person had been replaced by a Panda in the photo. Shaun proudly displayed his John Lennon figure before playing Original or Sequel, determining from the still (not a chemical still) photo if the movie was the original or sequel (obviously). It seemed that somewhere in the middle, a game of “As Fast As” was skipped, or else the kettle mysteriously appeared and disappeared for no reason!

In the four buttons round, the teams could choose from Carl Sagan’s Nose, Vangelis’s Ear, Dakota Fanning’s Elbow or Trust Me.

• The Baby Boomers “picked” the nose, playing What Who am I doing? For a special treat, a celebrity was brought in to perform the lines: Milo Kerrigan, former Heavyweight Champion of Goat Island. Unfortunately, the BB had trouble understanding him (poor Milo), so he often had to refer to props to assist.
• Gen Y chose the ear, playing a new game: It Could Be Worth. They had a number of items from throughout the last $50, and had to “buy” as many as possible without going over $650. It was the VCR at $899 which was their undoing.
• Shaun was thrilled when Gen X was “bullied” into Trust Me – “Seed Bell Sombrero”. Todd wore a hat of seeds in a cage while Charlie answered questions. He got them all wrong and Todd ended up covered in pidgeons – he didn’t get even one cuttlefish as a reward!

The Your Gen segment was wisely not called “Bingolipstick”, but was on the tough subject of Eggs. Stuart the Meerkat popped in (and out) and few times to keep Shaun entertained while the teams deliberated on their questions. He then made the “If you have any information at all, please let me know as I’m writing an encyclopaedia” joke – a failover from the P(r)ogram(me) days.

The end game envelope was delivered by Justin Bieber’s carpet, and the teams had to dress a shop window. It was Gen X who took home the “Operation Smile Golf Day” winner trophy, donated by the Jones Brothers.

“Remember, a comma is a shorter break than a coma, but one letter longer!”

Despite what this blog proclaimed, the guests this week were Ita Buttrose, Robyn Butler and Rob Mills. Strangely, Shaun announced both Robyn and Rob had penned exactly their own version of  Ita’s book – a guide to etiquette. The theme was the Golden Age of Television, aka the 1950’s, and Shaun had his hair slicked back for the occasion. He then gave his George Clooney impersonation.

The first game was what is obviously one of Shaun’s favs: What’s a Doodle Do? After confusing Qantas with Groucho and playing ads for ‘spanner cushions’ (not really), the next game was Spoilers Ahoy – where Shaun revealed the ending of a movie and the teams had to guess the title. To avoid giving the endings away to viewers, Shaun held up a picture of Harpo Marx to indicate ‘muting’ the TV to not hear the answer. This had to be extended to looking away at the same time.

The round of As Quick As was renamed Fast and Spurious, so it didn’t appear like the same game as last week.

Strong, independent women Shaun is attracted to: Enya, Penelope (Cruze), Barbra (Streisand), plus ‘Trust Me’.

• Gen X chose Enya playing ‘Name that Tune’, during which Shaun had to keep hitting a meerkat which repeatedly popped up in front of him
• BB picked Penelope – Chronoloco! Academy Award winners had to be arranged in the order they won their award
• Gen Y chose Barbra (wooo-ooo-ooo Barbra Streisand) – What Am I Smelling?

The Your Generation topic, revealed by Stuart the meerkat, was Plants. The man who played Fat Cat (Andre Zemf?) delivered the end-game envelope: Which Generation is Best At Polishing Shoes? During  the game, Shaun ate a banana and called the speaking clock.

In the end, the BB won the 1998 Mornington YC 1998 Coaches Encouragement Award, donated by Leigh Gridley.
