Last night (Friday), Shaun won an AFI Award for Outstanding Achievement in Television Screen Craft. Not bad for a completely talent less berk! 🙂

The Australian Film Industry awards is split into the Industry Awards and the Awards Ceremony (which is televised). At the Industry Awards (held on Friday), the AFI gives a few ‘honorary’ awards out at their discretion. And this year, Shaun was deemed worthy of the award for Television.
Well done, Shaun!
Voting has opened for the 2011 Logie Awards – Australia’s closest thing to an Emmy.
To vote, you’ll need to choose your favourites in a number of categories (including best new ‘talent’) – but the important thing is you can vote for Shaun as Most Popular Presenter and Most Popular TV Personality – ie. the Gold! You can also cast a vote for TAYG.
You’ll also need to supply your details to validate your vote – but it is well worth it…. for Shaun… 🙂

As yet, no firm date has been set for Laid, Marieke Hardy’s new black comedy show which Shaun has a guest role – other than “next year”. But a sneak peek has been posted – and lucky us – it contains Shaun, playing a subtly strange gynaecologist.
(Reminds me of the Monty Python sketch – “I am a doctor. Actually, I’m a gynaecologist but this is my lunch hour”)

As previously mentioned, Shaun is in Perth at the moment. He spent some time with Sam Mac from 92.9fm (a big Shaun fan) and filmed this interview – but is Shaun genuinely offended?
Tonight, Shaun and Stephen are in Perth, to begin what could be their last run of Good Evening. It runs until December 4th at His Majesty’s Theatre, so don’t hesitate!
The reviews have been fantastic; Shaun and Stephen are awesome; the material feels so fresh – if you’re not convinced yet, you’re in the wrong place!

As Shaun introduced, this week TAYG celebrated the end of the rating year, with “a Christmas special so early, it renders the point of it almost meaningless.”
The guests this week were Jennifer Byrne for the Baby Boomers, Chas Licciardello for Gen X and Hamish Blake for Gen Y. Josh gave Hamish a puppy for a gift (but presented a community service announcement later advising that pets are not just for Christmas).
The first game was Fantoystic! Each team had to identify the toy from the photo and the decade it first became popular. Yuletide Fly (an adaptation of the Human Fly game) was the next game played. Shaun announced the next game as Al Jazeera Masterchef, but that was too complicated so changed it back to Chicken or Egg, but then to be more Christmassy, Turkey or Egg, but that was also too complicated!
In the four buttons round, the choices were Gold, Frankincense, Myrrh and Mr Squiggles (a zuzu hamster?)
In the Your Gen round, each team was quizzed on the topic of Gifts. To the question “which star, referred to as God’s gift to women, got his start on a television series” – the answer was Shaun Micallef. (of course)
The end game envelope was delivered by Ziggy, the world’s smallest zombie. The game was Which Generation is the Best at Being the Embodiment of Christmas, where each team had to recreate Santa’s journey; wrap presents, deliver them down a chimney and eat the treats left by the kids. Due to the poor behaviour of Gen X&Y, the Baby Boomers were awarded the trophy: the 1996 Victorian Body Building Championships 1st Prize donated by Chris Camilleri.

Alright, so the title is a bit of a stretch, but I just wanted to quickly post about Shaun’s book reading at The Wheeler Centre in Melbourne this evening.
Shaun was his usual seemingly effortlessly humorous self, describing the story, his inspiration – plus reading an excerpt. A couple of weird points – only a handful indicated they had actually read it (including me) and even less said they had seen his ABC TV series. Who are these people?!
He finished up with some Q&A then a meet-and-greet-and-autograph session. Anyway, here is the photographic evidence. 🙂
More good news – as Piper commented earlier, it was confirmed that Smithereens is going to be back in print! To be released at the end of January next year. Huzzah! (For some reason, I never purchased a copy and very much regret it.) Looks like a slightly different cover (with the less-flattering hair cut), and it states – “Now with added Smithereens!”.
Now to catch up on some TV and watch the last Offspring episode – didn’t that have a special guest…?

It’s certainly a busy schedule for Shaun at the moment. Good Evening wraps up in Brisbane on Sunday, before he flies down to Melbourne for an event promoting his book, Preincarnate (which I am attending – woo!).
I’m sure he’ll take a couple of days off before heading to Perth for a (final?) short run of Good Evening. No wonder we won’t get another New Year’s special this year!
Alas, we have reached the season final of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation for 2010. To finish off, it’s a Christmas themed episode (too early I say) with Jennifer Byrne (BB), Chas Licciardello from The Chaser (Gen X) and Hamish Blake (Gen Y) on the guest list.
