In response to Shaun’s joke about In Gordon Street Tonight leading to the ad break in the Gone with the Wind episode of TAYG, Adam Hills and Dave O’Neil played a joke with Shaun in retribution – Watch it here. (Thanks Micallef Tumbl(e)r)

Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell is coming
Pre-production has began on Mad as Hell, which is Shaun’s anticipated return to his more tradition comedy show format. It will focus on weekly events, similar to Newstopia, and air on the ABC. The show will feature a cast of about six, and the first episode is set to screen on May 25.
Shaun causes havoc on Ten Breakfast
When will shows learn not to have Shaun on live? Well, it’s good for us, as usually it’s a lot funnier. On Ten Breakfast the other week, Shaun was meant to debate the generation divide, but ended up reorganising the studio and being generally hilariously disruptive.
Watch it here, starts at about 1minute in.
Who does Shaun think he is?
Shaun certainly wants to know, and we’ll find out soon with the season 4 première episode of Who Do You Think You Are?
Delving into a family past he was never told much about, Shaun goes to Turkey to discover that his great-great-great-grandfather on his mother’s side had a brush with one of the most famous women of the 18th Century, Florence Nightingale.
But it’s the things he learns about his father’s family, originating from Malta, which are the most surprising and bring his relationship to his father to a new level.
In some unaired information, Shaun also found that part of his family tree ended up in Perth. He great, great, great-grandfather had seen out his last years in Perth, when the colony of WA was only 50 years old.
The episode airs Tuesday March 27th at 7:30pm on SBS.
Shaun’s secret acting role
A few would have noticed Shaun eating bananas at various times on recent episode of TAYG. According to TV Week, Shaun is losing a bit of weight for an upcoming, secret dramatic role for Channel Ten.
Shaun says he has “a project coming up that I can’t talk about, where the person I’m acting with is stick thin, and in my normal state I’d look too big against them.” So far he’s lost 9 kg, so watch him chisel up as the season continues.
In a separate article on TV Tonight, Shaun revealed the new drama came out of an idea from himself and Jason Stephens, and will star Kat Stewart. He won’t be writing it though, preferring to concentrate on the acting side. Shooting looks like running from late August up until the end of the year, making 2012 another busy one for Shaun.
TV Week has guessed that the secret role is linked to a telemovie about Julian Assange. What do you think?
Shaun Micallef is Mad as Hell
No, not a statement of fact, but the title of Shaun’s new ABC show, announced for 2012.
The show is described as “a half-hour weekly round-up, branding, inoculation and crutching of all the important news stories”. It’s been a few years since Shaun’s been on the ABC. His show Newstopia, which will draw obvious comparisons, aired on SBS from 2007-8.
“So, what’s this show all about? A good question, if I do say so – and it’s exactly that sort of direct, no-nonsense questioning of even myself that’s going to make this show the must-see event television that’s been virtually killed off by Kyle and Jackie O’s A Night with the Stars.” says Shaun Micallef.
10 episodes will air, with dates still to be advised.
Talkin’ Bout Your Generation will still be returning to Channel 10 in 2012, with 10 episodes to be recorded and aired. Plenty of Micallef for next year!
The Collected Shaun DVD Set
After rumours last year, finally The Collected Shaun Micallef DVD Box Set is now out in stores (also here)!
The box set includes 10 DVDs and 1 CD:
- All 3 seasons of The Micallef Programme (6 discs)
- The Expurgated Micallef Tonight (2 discs)
- The Incomplete Shaun Micallef (Full Frontal best-of) (2 discs)
- His Generation CD
Originally, the box set was to include Shaun Micallef’s New Years Rave, shown on Channel Ten at the end of 2009, but that seems to have been omitted. That means all of the DVDs (and CD) in the box have been previously released individually.
Another glaring omission is of course Welcher and Welcher, which was released last year.
Cameo in Bazura
A new ABC2 show is going to do a tongue-in-cheek investigation of the sinful side of cinema. The Bazura Project began life on community television as a movie appreciation and review show. Hosts Shannon Marinko and Lee Zachariah have made the move to the ABC for a 6-part series covering violence, sex, money, profanity, drugs and fame.
Shaun, along with Tony Martin and Kat Stewart, have all filmed cameos for the new series, which starts Thursday September 29th at 9pm.
Update: Shaun will be voicing the role of the robot MK-Ultra in all six episodes!
Having a Quiet Word
Saturday night at 9:30pm on ABC1 is when you can see A Quiet Word with Shaun Micallef, with Tony Martin in the roll of interviewer/converser.
If you can’t be in front of a TV at that time, catch it on iView. We’ll also try to transcribe as much as we can for posting later.
Shaun is also the visiting scrivener at Tony’s blog, so read his contribution: The Resolute President.
Interviews with Shaun
Just a reminder – you only have until Thursday to submit your questions for our interview with Shaun. The best questions will then be submitted, so we can get some answers! (Unless we can’t handle the truth?)
Speaking of which, we are very excited to see Tony Martin’s show A Quiet Word With… will be featuring Shaun on 28th of May. With the show format resembling an informal chat, this should prove to be a must see!
